A Native Californian, Joe Garcia grew up on a small ranch near San Diego.
He developed an awareness of wildlife and it's habitat in those years, and now frequently travels to wilderness areas throughout North America to collect reference for his paintings. He currently lives near the mountain village of Julian, California, where the oaks and pines shelter an abundance
of birds, deer and other wildlife.
Joe earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with an advertising/illustration emphasis from the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles in 1970. While working as a graphic illustrator, Joe pursued his vocation in wildlife watercolor painting. In 1983 he chose to work as a
fine artist exclusively.
Although trained in acrylic and oil, Joe prefers watercolor for its versatility and spontaneity. His
style portrays his subjects in a tight, yet delicate center of interest,
complemented by a loose, interpretive background.
