“Painter of the Scenic West and the Grand
Canyon”
Doug
Miley, a self taught artist, paints not to please but to involve. He does not just paint scenery, but creates a mystical scene from nature, a sort of poetry in
color. He meticulously paints with light, creating a brilliance and luminosity rarely found in art since the 19th century Hudson River School influence.
He worked as an illustrator both during his military service and for Campbell Soup Co. for 11 years.
In 1979 his talents led him into art restoration. He restored many paintings by old masters and renowned painters of the West, such as George
Phippen, Charles Russell and Olaf Wieghorst.
He is listed in the book "Contemporary Western Artists". The recipient of many awards, his paintings are treasured by many collectors in the United States, Canada and Japan.
